Is Your Phone System Obsolete?

The leading reason for modern companies to change their existing phone system is obsolescence and technical breakdowns. Older phone systems, while durable enough to last this long, just don’t cut it anymore. Many of the systems that are in use today have reached “End of Life”, meaning the manufacturer is no longer supporting the system or making new parts.
Phone system life spans range from 5 to 15 years; after that they tend to be declared technically obsolete by either industry standards or by the manufacturer itself.  Many of these business phone systems are working, which is a testament to the quality and durability of phone systems, however these old systems are racking up repair costs as the years go by. Worse yet, any replacement parts are all “refurbished”—which means “used”—and online marketers are usually the source. Eventually something is going to break that cannot be repaired, and the whole system will need to be replaced. It can be expensive and a little daunting to replace your phone system, but it’s better to get it over with now, instead of slowly accumulating service and repair costs. The cost of the new system is small in comparison to cost of missing calls and customers due to phone system downtime. Missed calls means lost business which means lost revenue.
Additionally, the older systems are much more difficult to manage than modern ones, requiring more expertise by service professionals with ancient training, many of which have left the work force. It can be very expensive to repair that old system and will only get more expensive as those “experienced” technicians and replacement parts disappear.
Our advice? Take a proactive approach to your phone system. In most cases, the system has already “paid” for itself over its years in service. In general, it’s best to invest money when you have time to research. That way you won’t be caught without phones for days if the old system fails and has to be replaced.
A newer phone system that could be the reliable replacement for your old system is Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol, or VoIP for short. The Internet-based, customizable, and flexible phone system can not only handle your calls, but also allow you to set up a virtual receptionist and manage your call flows.
